Would I be able to work in the computer programming industry with this certificate?

I've already completed 4 years of university (in Arts), and I don't want to go back to school for another 4 years. My university has a certificate program in Computer Science - Computer Programming Applications, and I was wondering if this would be sufficient for me to get at least an entry level job in the booming field of computer software programming.





The certificate is 6 courses, and consists of:


- Computer Science I


- Computer Science II


- Data Structures


- Introduction to C and UNIX


- Object Oriented Programming and Design


- Human-Computer Interaction and GUI Development





So what do you think? Would this certificate enable me to find a job, and be a good foundation for entry into this type of career?

stick with your 4 years degree in Arts , in this field most companies require 4 years degree in programming plus experince ,
Reply:You need to get some solid C (not just intro), C++ and Java programming in there. I don't know what Computer Science I and II contain, but you should also focus on algorithms, and databases. The OO, data strucutures and GUI classes are important


A significant number of Programmers work in the Windows environment. That will be more extensive to learn than a particular language. Same with Linux , very similar to UNIX. For most programming, you need to be comfortable in the development environment which include, the operating system, libraries and the development tools available, like debuggers, editors, compilers, IDE's and source control.


If you already have a Bachelor's Degree then the certificate would help.
Reply:The certificate wouldn't do anything, but what you learn by taking the courses will probably get you an entry-level position. If they're taught well, they sound like you'll have a solid grounding in programming and C.
