I kno lixnix is only 4 programers but what if u want 2 do networkeing?

my friend jayson says linxux is only 4 programers b/c it does not have a graphical user GUI and is only text. so that is cool i think programers are cool so thats cool that they have their own O/S.

but if u want 2 do networkeing like hok up 2 computers and have them shaer files and mp3s i think windows xp or vista xp work the best b/c u can do networking on them. they suport multiple computers being conected and then u can swap fiels like mp3s and movesi and stuff.

plus windows alows u 2 make a network of even MOER than 2 computers, like even 10! i think it is the first o/s to do this. microsoft is realy makeing some advnanced stuff!

but what would be so cool wuld be a vresion of lixnix that can do the networking like windows but ASLO but text-only 4 programers, so then programrs cud share their code and programs. just an idea!!! ;)

is this right? i think it is and myf riend jayson agres but i just wanted 2 make sure thankx!!!

Jayson isn't correct. Linux has GUIs available which can be configured during the installation of the OS - KDE being one of them (http://www.kde.org/). Some can be made to look almost identical to the Windows GUI.

Linux is quite capable of networking with other computers and can be configured to access Windows shares. This can include a very large number of computers with which it can be networked - say, the Internet, for example. Many web servers you access are run on Linux, Solaris, Windows or other OSes.

If you are a Windows person, you might want to go to the hplearningcenter.com site and take the Linux 101 course. It is free and you will learn quite a bit. The course requires a computer on which the Linux will be installed but if you don't have one, you can use something like Microsoft Virtual PC to build the Linux system on a virtual machine.

As far as sharing code, there are sites like sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/) that have a lot of source code than can be compiled on both Windows and *nix OSes. Some of that code is written on Windows machines and some on *nix. Perl is a good example of a programming language that is used on both Windows and *nix OSes (http://www.activestate.com/products/acti... but there are many others.
